Apply for your dog to become a student groom dog.
At Dog Diversity, our students learn on real dogs, in real grooming appointments, under close supervision.
The Hubba Hubba Club is our student-dog program for dogs who are:
calm
comfortable with handling
friendly in a grooming environment
able to visit regularly (every 6 to 8 weeks)
If your dog is accepted as a Hubba Hubba Dog, you’ll receive a special student groom rate and help train the next generation of groomers.
Why we do this
Student dogs help our learners build confidence, skill, and safe handling habits. We are very selective about the dogs we include because welfare always comes first.
Is your dog a good fit?
We’re looking for dogs who are happy with things like:
being brushed and combed
feet being held
face handling
being dried (including a dryer)
standing calmly for parts of the groom
being in a grooming environment for up to around 3 hours
Your dog must:
be 14+ months old
be up to date with vaccinations
be up to date with flea and worming prevention
be able to return for grooming every 6 to 8 weeks (preferably every 6 weeks)
This is required to maintain Hubba Hubba status and pricing.
Coat types we especially need
We welcome all suitable dogs, but we are currently hoping to add more:
poodle-mixes (oodles)
Schnauzers
Westies
Bichons
Poodles
Maltese and Maltese crosses
other commonly groomed coat types
How the Hubba Hubba Club works
Step 1: Apply online
Submit the application form below. We will review your dog’s details and contact you if we think they may be suitable.
Step 2: Assessment groom at Doggy Dooz
Before joining the Hubba Hubba Club, your dog must complete an initial full groom in our professional salon, Doggy Dooz.
This allows our senior groomers to check your dog’s:
behaviour and comfort levels
coat condition
handling tolerance
suitability for student grooming
You’ll receive 10% off this assessment groom as a thank you for applying.
Step 3: Hubba Hubba student grooms
If your dog is accepted, they can be booked in as a Hubba Hubba student dog at Dog Diversity.
To maintain Hubba Hubba status, your dog must be groomed at a maximum of 8-week intervals.
Hubba Hubba pricing
Hubba Hubba student grooms are currently $62.
Extra charges may apply if required, including:
sensitive or medicated shampoo
flea treatment
matting fees (if the coat requires clipping due to matting)

By applying for the Hubba Hubba Club, you acknowledge and agree to the following:
1) Suitability and assessment
All Hubba Hubba Club memberships are subject to assessment by a senior groomer.
This applies for:
acceptance into the Hubba Hubba Club for the first time
re-assessment after changes in behaviour
re-assessment after a long break between grooms
2) Health and wellbeing
Please inform Dog Diversity staff if your dog has been unwell, injured, or “not themselves” in recent days.
Unwell dogs may:
pass illness onto other dogs
behave in ways that are out of character
We are happy to reschedule your appointment if your dog is not well, for their safety and the safety of other dogs and groomers.
3) Vaccinations and parasite prevention
Your dog’s vaccinations, flea prevention, and worming prevention must be up to date.
This protects your dog and other dogs in the salon from preventable parasites and diseases.
4) Toileting
Please toilet your dog before entering the salon.
Once in the salon, we are unable to take dogs outside for toileting walks due to insurance and liability requirements.
5) Membership decisions
Dog Diversity reserves the right to cancel a Hubba Hubba Club membership at any time, for any reason.
Dog Diversity reserves the right to increase the Hubba Hubba Club special price in line with inflation and CPI.
6) Specialty shampoos
If your dog requires sensitive or medicated shampoo, an additional charge applies:
$5 for small dogs
$10 for large dogs
7) Fleas
If your dog presents with fleas, additional charges apply:
flea shampoo ($5 for small dogs, $10 for large dogs)
a flat $35 cleaning fee to prevent salon infestation
8) Matting and coat condition
Dog Diversity’s philosophy is Humanity before Vanity.
We will not leave a dog in pain due to matting, knots, or skin problems. We will not cause pain by de-matting or brushing out painful knots.
If your dog is matted, matting fees may apply on top of the Hubba Hubba groom price. These fees can be up to $100 per groom.
You may also be asked to sign a waiver outlining risks involved in grooming a matted dog.
9) Ongoing suitability
There may come a time when your dog’s needs change and they are no longer suitable for student grooms.
If this happens, we will guide you through transitioning to our senior groomers at Doggy Dooz.
10) Maintaining Hubba Hubba status
To maintain Hubba Hubba Club membership, your dog must be groomed at a maximum of 8-week intervals, preferably every 6 weeks.
We strongly recommend re-booking your next appointment at pick-up to avoid missing out.
If you are unable to commit to this schedule, your dog may be removed from the Hubba Hubba Club and may need to be re-assessed by a senior groomer.
11) Standard Doggy Dooz and Dog Diversity Terms
The following also apply:
24 hours notice is required for appointment changes or cancellations
If sufficient notice is not received, a $25 no-show fee must be paid before you can book again.If you are running late, please call the salon
Appointments not attended or addressed within 10 minutes of the scheduled time will be cancelled, and the $25 no-show fee will apply.Dog Diversity is not a dog minding service
The maximum a dog may stay in the salon is 4 hours.Pick-up times will be advised at drop-off
You will receive a call or text approximately 15 minutes before your dog is finished.Late pick-up fees of $20 per hour will be charged.

Every Hubba Hubba groom is closely supervised, and we only accept dogs who are genuinely comfortable in a grooming environment.
If at any point your dog is feeling stressed or not coping on the day, we’ll adjust the plan or stop the groom. No pushing through. No pressure.
